This is a three day intensive course that it targeted at those who work in high risk areas. This will include industry settings, those where injuries are highly likely along with locations that are not easily accessible to the emergency services. This is intended as a first course for those about to become first aiders.

Course Content

The sessions are highly interactive with information giving, powerpoint presentations, videos, quizzes and practical scenarios.

  • Role of the first aider.
  • Supporting legislation, role of HSE
  • Incident management.
  • Chain of survival.
  • Primary/secondary survey
  • Airway care – recovery position.
  • Choking
  • CPR
  • Bleeding and blood loss
  • Bandaging techniques
  • Dealing with Burns, scalds.
  • Handling suspected fractures and muscle injuries.
  • Dealing with poisoning
  • Common medical emergencies.
  • Chest pains, Strokes, Diabetic problems, Fits and convulsions, Shock.
    MIST Handover
  • Maintaining the first aid kit
  • Record keeping


Certification Valid for three years, though an annual updating of skills is strongly recommended.
First aid book, certificate and wallet size certificate provided for all delegates.
